Winter, 2006Early morning sighting by two experienced cougar trackers - cat seen crossing the road and followed up with tracks in the snow
09/19/08Cougar raced across the road at US 23 northbound 3/4 of a mile west of Swenson Road, just outside of the city of Au Gres
08/21/09Jim E observes a cougar crossing US 23 NE of Au Gres at 11 p.m.
08/31/09Ron and his son observed and took the above photo of a cougar near Au Gres - stared at the cat for about 15 seconds

Using information compiled by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, it was determined that approximately 50% of anecdotal reports (as listed below), can be classified as probable or verified.
Reports by the public, when carefully screened for reliability, and used in conjunction with other information and evidence, can aid in assessing population status.
