Behind the deer was a cougar about 50' from the observer; cougar stopped and turned to look at the observer; estimated weight 150 pounds, over 3' in length, furry tail about 2' long.

Reports by the public, when carefully screened for reliability, and used in conjunction with other information and evidence, can aid in assessing population status.
