| Judge Beverly Nettles-Nickerson,Ingham County Circuit Court, has recently determined that the Natural Resources Commission and the Department of Natural Resources are violating the law by allowing bobcat trapping in the Lower Pensinsula in 2004. The opinion states that their decisions were not based on sound scientific evidence. Judge Nettles-Nickerson agreed with the Michigan Bear Hunters Association and other hunting groups that the DNR and NRC was not employing sound science, but politics. Introduced in the case were DNR doucments showing their own data suggesting overharvest of bobcats was likely if trapping was allowed. The NRC simply chose from trapping options presented to them by the DNR Lansing staff. |
