1984 Bone Fragment


In 1984, a car hit an alleged cougar in Menominee County. Bone fragments were sent to Colorado State University, where the fragments were analyzed as "positive identity to mountain lion".

In 2004, additional samples of the bone including blood samples were forwarded to Central Michigan University where they were again analyzed. This time, the samples were analyzed as 99% similarity to Bobcat and only 87% similarity to Cougar.
