| While the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) may be asking who or what the animals are in the above Monroe County film, the citizens of Michigan are asking who or what is the Natural Resources Commission. |
| The Michigan Natural Resources Commission is a seven member board that oversees the Department of Natural Resources. Members are appointed by the Michigan Governor and term expirations are staggered, ending in December of each year. Members are not appointed geographically by district, but represent the entire State upon appointment. The adoption of Proposal G in 1996, transferred reponsibility of wildlife management from Michigan's Governor to the Natural Resources Commission to provide for sound science principles. |
| Please use the links below to become familiar with members of the Natural Resources Commission and their meeting schedule, agendas, and minutes. Beginning in August, the NRC heard from wildlife organizations and public citizens expressing their interest in the State's recognition of cougars. Feel free to write a letter or send email to the Commissioners explaining your position on recognizing Michigan's cougar. |
| According to a recent Ingham County court decision, the NRC is not doing its job - at least for the Michigan bobcat. If the NRC is not responsive to citizen input and concern, they can be replaced at the end of the current term.
